Inpatient surgery

Inpatient surgery means that the patient has to stay in the hospital for one or several days after the surgery is performed.

The patient may have to be admitted into the hospital the night before the procedure or arrive in the morning of the same day it is scheduled.

 

Pre-anesthesia appointment

If you have this type of surgery scheduled, you will have an appointment with the anesthesiologist at the hospital a few days in advance in order to prepare for your surgery.This contact may also be by phone, especially if we already have your recent clinical history.

After the pre-anesthesia appointment, we will call you to confirm the date of the surgery.

 

Hospitalization before surgery

If you have to spend the night at the hospital before surgery, please visit the section I will be admitted to the hospital (language: catalan) where you will find all the information.

 

Arriving on the day of surgery

If you have to arrive at the hospital on the same day of the surgery, please review the guidelines you will find in the document Practical guidelines before surgery (language: catalan).

They are summarized below:

• During the 6 hours before surgery, do not take any solid food or milk. Do not smoke, eat candy or chew gum.
• Up to 2 hours before surgery, you can drink the following liquids:still water, tea, coffee, pulp-free juice, non-carbonated energy drinks, jello or fat-free, strained broth.Drink a maximum of two glasses.
• Take a shower the night before surgery and again in the morning, soaping twice, particularly the area where you will have the procedure.
• Arrive at the hospital on an empty stomach.
• Bring someone with you.
• Wear comfortable clothes.
• Bring a bag for your clothes.
• Do not wear any jewelry or piercings.
• Do not wear any makeup, nail polish, false nails, lotion or cologne.
• Be very careful with prostheses. If you have to wear any device or equipment and your healthcare professional has asked you to bring it, do so.
• When you arrive, go to the Surgical Patients Reception Unit, where they will inform you about how the surgery was organized and assign you a room number.
