What are day hospitals?

They are facilities where patients can have tests and treatments requiring a few hours stay performed without being admitted to the hospital.

At Germans Trias, there are several day hospitals: the Multi-purpose day hospital, including Pneumology, Hepathology, and Acute Infectious Pathology; Endocrinology; Cardiac; Oncohematology of the Catalan Oncology Institute (ICO Badalona); HIV (Aids Fighting Foundation); Eating Disorders and Pediatrics day hospitals.

Your doctor has indicated that you need this type of care. The doctor or nurses will tell you about the treatment duration.

 

The Multi-purpose day hospital

The Multi-purpose day hospital, which is the one where patients with the most diverse pathologies are treated, is open from Monday to Friday, 8:00-21:00. It is coordinated by a team of three nurses and over 30 patients on average are treated every day. It is located on the ground floor, and it can be reached from the main entrance, crossing the ground floor towards the Emergency hallway, and turning left.

In the Multi-purpose day hospital area you will also find:

• the Pneumology day hospital
• the Hepathology day hospital
• the Acute Infectious Pathology

On the day of your appointment, you can bring one person who can stay with you at all times. When you arrive, please go to the secretary's desk to register your arrival. You will need to bring:

• ID or passport
• Individual health card

You can also bring books, magazines or electronic devices to keep yourself entertained.

All information about your stay will be entered into the system and reviewed by your doctor. Once finished, the secretary or nursing staff will let you know when you should come back, if necessary.

Endocrinology day hospital

It mostly provides quick, personalized treatment to patients who suffer non-serious decompensated diabetes episodes that may be managed in a few hours and without the patient having to be admitted to the hospital. They also treat patients with other pathologies such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism.

The hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:00-15:00. It is on the first floor, and the easiest way to reach it is from the main entrance.

On the day of your appointment, you should bring someone with you and confirm that you have arrived at the secretary's desk. You should bring:

• ID or passport
• Individual health card

Cardiac day hospital

One of its main purposes is to make it easy for patients who have been diagnosed with heart failure to reach the hospital in case they suffer an decompensation episode or any other complication.

It is open from Monday to Friday, 8:00-17:00. It is in the Cardiac Unit on the ground floor. From the main entrance, go across the ground floor towards the Emergency hallway and turn left.

On the day of your appointment, you should bring someone with you. Please confirm that you have arrived at the secretary's desk. You should bring:

Oncohematology day hospital (COI)

The oncohematology day hospital of the Catalan Oncology Institute (COI) is on the third floor of the Mother and Child tower.

It has a multi-disciplinary team made up of highly qualified doctors, nurses, clerical assistants and staff. This team is focused on the care and follow up of oncohematologic patients, and on administering treatment and managing complications that may arise from the treatment or the disease itself.

The day hospital has rooms for extractions, nurse consultation, clinical studies, six treatment rooms with 23 chairs, and 3 rooms with 5 beds (one individual room for post-transplant patients who may require specific treatment). It manages up to 80 treatments per day.

It is open from Monday to Friday, 7:15-22:00. On the day of your appointment, you should bring someone with you. Please confirm your arrival at the secretary's desk. You need to bring:

• Individual health card

Pediatrics day hospital

It is on the seventh floor of the Mother and Child tower, and it mostly provides treatment pediatric oncohematology patients.

It is open from 8:00 to 15:00, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

We suggest that only one person come with the child and arrival to the day hospital should be confirmed with the secretary or the nurse in charge. You should bring:

• ID or passport
• Individual health card

HIV day hospital

It provides comprehensive and specific care for people who have been diagnosed with AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), and it is managed jointly by the Germans Trias Hospital and the AIDS Fighting Foundation. It offers specialized treatment without the patient having to be admitted to the hospital.

It opens Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 15:00,and it is located on the second floor of the Mother and Child area. The easiest way to get there is from the main entrance, turning left and going up one floor.

On the day of the appointment, you should confirm your arrival with the secretary and bring:

• ID or passport
• Individual health card

Eating disorders day hospital

It provides care to people with eating disorders, and it is intensive ambulatory treatment without removing the patient from his or her social and family environments.

It is on the fifth floor of the Mother and Child tower, and it is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 15:30.

You should confirm your arrival with the secretary and bring:

• Individual health card
