Tips for pregnant women

COVID-19 is not more severe in pregnant women and is not transmitted to the fetus. The general guidelines for containing and preventing infection are the same as for the rest of the general public.

General guidelines to follow:

  • Stay at home and avoid contact with other people outside the home.
  • Only visit health centres if necessary; and as a rule, come with only one other person.
  • Avoid contact with people that are sick.
  • If you are in contact with other people, keep a safe distance of at least one metre.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based solutions.

Pregnancy care

In-person visits, as the rest of non-urgent health care, will be restricted provisionally but you will receive the necessary care as efficiently as possible.

The Obstetrics Department has prepared these videos with advice for pregnant women in the face of the pandemic. You can watch them all on this YouTube playlist:

ASSIR has also prepared a series of videos for birth preparation and the postpartum period. The videos seek to provide pregnant women with information and accompany them during the pregnancy and the baby's arrival.

What should I do if I have symptoms of being infected with the coronavirus?

If you have slight respiratory symptoms (fever below 38ºC, cough, sore throat, muscular pain) do not come to the hospital. Call us at 93 497 84 80 or contact ASSIR Badalona-Sant Adrià by telephone at93 462 86 00 or by sending an email to electrònic assir.badalona.ics@gencat.catassir.stadria.sanitat@gencat.cat).

If we are unable to attend to you immediately, we will take down your personal information and contact you as soon as possible.

Probably we will advise you to stay home, take your temperature regularly, consume a large amount of liquids and take 500 mg paracetamol every 8 hours.

Make sure your house is well ventilated. Try and stay away from other family members, maintaining a distance of 2 metres, or wear a mask if you have to have contact with other people. Do not share silverware, glasses or napkins. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when you sneeze or cough. If you have more than one bathroom in your house, use it exclusively. Do not have any visitors. If you have any doubts about these measures, call us.

And if I have symptoms related to the pregnancy?

If, in addition to slight respiratory symptoms, you also have an emergency related to the pregnancy (contractions, loss of liquid, blood), go directly to the Hospital Germans Trias emergency room or to the closest health centre. When you get to the emergency room, inform emergency staff of your respiratory symptoms.

Reasons for alarm regarding the coronavirus

If the fever is over 38ºC, if you feel like you are choking or it is difficult to breath, go to Hospital Germans Trias. If the situation is extremely urgent, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital.

In this document you will find all the recommendations.
