Clinical director of the Department of Neurosciences, head of the Neurology Department and professor at UAB's School of Medicine, Can Ruti Campus

 

Neurology specialist. PhD. For 18 years he led the Neurology Department and the Stroke Unit at the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona, where he was scientific director as well. He has been the head of the Neurology Department and clinical director in the Neurosciences Department of the Germans Trias Hospital since October 2004, as well as a professor in the UAB's Department of Medicine. He leads the Neurosciences basic and traslational research group, accredited and financed by the Government of Catalonia's Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR), and the neurovascular research group section of the Spanish government's Carlos III Institute of Health RETICS-INVICTUS network. He has published more than 250 original articles that have contributed to establishing treatments based on the evidence gathered within the scope of acute strokes (56 H index).His group's research has generated fifteen doctoral theses, four patents, more than 30 contracts with the pharmaceutical industry for the development of new therapies, and has received financing for nineteen competitive research projects.

He has been secretary at the Spanish Association of Neurology and his research in cerebrovascular diseases has been recognized by his admission in the American Neurological Association. He was also awarded a prize for excellence by the Medical Association of Barcelona, the Pioneering Award by the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology, one of the prizes for the best experience of the Health Plan of Catalonia 2011-2015, the ICTUS 2012 scientific award by the Spanish Association of Neurology and an award recognising his research career by the Catalan Institute of Health in 2014 and XVII Clinical Investigation Award of Pzifer Fundation.
