Presentation:

The aim of the Urology and Kidney Transplantation Surgery Service is to provide integral urological coverage to all patients of the health area of influence of the hospital (North Barcelona and Maresme). It also aims to be a centre of reference in complex pathologies, such as oncology surgery, prostate enucleation with laser, kidney lithiasis or reconstructive surgery. All with a vision of integrating healthcare, teaching and research to offer excellent urological care to the public.

The service is organized in units that are responsible for a specific area of pathology knowledge, to favour the specialization of the team in highly complex surgical techniques or in rare diseases.

At the same time:

  • It is in charge of general urology service at the Doctor Barra Specialized Treatment Centre of Sant Adrià de Besós and the Doctor Robert Specialized Treatment Centre of Badalona
  • It is in charge of the urology service of Hospital de l’Esperit Sant of Santa Coloma de Gramenet
  • It collaborates with the Urology Unit of Institut Guttman and with the Urology Unit of Hospital de Mataró.

In patient care, the service promotes multidisciplinary systems, meaning that professionals of other specialities participate when necessary.

In the academic field, the service has been committed since the start to the training and teaching of Medical students of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and resident doctors (MIR). In recent years, it has also been involved in research: it closely collaborates with the Institut Germans Trias and the IrisCaixa Aids Research Institute, along with other prestigious research programmes.
